Mayumi Kimura, LICSW

Mayumi served in the United States Navy, where she specialized in operations. Upon separation, she completed her Masters in Social Work at University of New Hampshire. She worked in various settings such as home hospice, in-patient psych, crisis team and eventually settled in as a House of Corrections Program Director for a Veteran's unit. She continued her PTSD and trauma work with Veterans that experienced trauma from combat and sexual trauma. Mayumi founded Insight Therapy and Consulting LLC as a way to serve the intersecting and diverse community she experienced along her journey.

Mayumi's approach to therapy is humanistic and relational, but other modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive processing therapy, internal family systems, mindfulness, and the science behind human behavior. Guided by progress, therapy should be collaborative, organic, and fluid.

Mayumi's style of therapy can be described as direct, blunt, with a lot of humor. Validation, compassion, and encouragement are essential, sugarcoating reality is not. She feels that any relationship can be a model on how to trust, communicate, and connect - and that includes the therapeutic relationship.
